Gildar Gallery is pleased to present (Missing) Persons, a group exhibition running from November 20 to December 27, 2014 featuring contemporary works exploring the partial absence and emergence of the figure. Through a diversity of conceptual aims, media and physical approaches such as erasure, omission and concealment, each artist shares a common interest in the alchemy of artistic processes to both dissolve and conjure a body in plain site. As in Ezra Pound’s seminal modernist poem, “In a Station of the Metro”, the works in the exhibition approach the edge of figurative perception through images revealed and withheld. As recognizable identities are transmuted into degrees of ghostly archetype and allegory one has to wonder, who is actually missing?
In accordance with its title, the existence of the exhibition itself will shift over the course of its lifespan within the gallery. Following the opening, objects by each artist will be removed and replaced periodically, causing the show to disappear and resurface anew. At its culmination the exhibition will have completely transformed while still resembling its initial self.
